Some Catching Up To Do…

And so begins a long line of posts from December! You have been warned :) I decided to purposefully take the month of December off for ‘official’ photo sessions, and just worked on some personal projects, which I am just now getting around to editing and blogging. Can’t wait to share some snapshots of life with you over the next few days/weeks!

First up, Christmas Weekend to Indy. Since we’ve been married, Tim & I try to take at least one night to celebrate Christmas just the two of us. Because he leads worship at church, we are there most of the day on Christmas Eve, and we drive immediately up to New York to be with my family after the service. Not a lot of ‘us’ time :) So this year Tim surprised me with a short stay in Indianapolis! We got there Friday, walked around downtown, had dinner out and enjoyed relaxing and taking a break from work and the craziness that the month had brought.

At the end of the night we got stuck in a CRAZY rainstorm. Out of the blue, with no umbrellas. Which of course gave us a good reason to run into the nearest Starbucks and try to wait out the storm! Definitely an eventful end to our night.

On Saturday we left the hotel and grabbed brunch at a local diner that blew us away with their incredible food! We went out on a limb to try something new, and it was a great decision. :) After that, Tim had another surprise up his sleeve! We headed to a Straight No-Chaser Christmas concert!! With seats in the VERY front row. You can tell from the pictures below just how close we were. I took those with a portrait lens – no zoom AT ALL! It was awesome!

On the drive home, we ran into some unexpected problems. We were driving through a flash-flood warning, which was already crazy in and of itself, when we hit a huge pothole in the road. It didn’t seem to affect the car too much, so we kept driving until the next exit where we pulled off for gas. Once we stopped we saw the damage it had done – the tire was completely shot, and it looked like we could have damaged the axle. Thankfully, a local mechanic was right across the street and came over to look at it. While he was there, three other cars pulled up with the same problem! He told us there was no way we could get back home on that tire, and we’d have to leave it there overnight. Thankfully, our friends Chris and Grace just happened to be driving back from Indianapolis that night as well, and came to pick us up and take us home for the night. It was not an ideal way to end our weekend, and definitely caused a lot of stress and frustration. We found out the next week that the tread on all four of the car’s tires was completely worn down, and it was deemed unsafe for us to drive, especially in winter weather conditions. So although it cost an arm and a leg to get these problems fixed, I am convinced that God was keeping us safe, because we had intended to take that car for the 8 hour drive up to New York in a snowstorm on Christmas Eve. I’m thankful His plans are better than ours, even if I am whining and crying along the way. :)
